JACK M. "MEL" BARNES Jr. JACK M. `MEL' BARNES, JR.Born under the sign of Leo, Jack (or Mel as he would become known to friends and family) roared into the world on July 24th, 1957 and didn't stop roaring until he passed away Friday, April 30th, 2010 at his home in Palacios, Texas. Mel was a wonderful guy! I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Terri, you have done an excellent job with the notice. Legacy.com is a great tribute! A terrific sister that you are!

May Mel now rest in peace. No more pain. No more suffering.

I saw the obituary last week and was so surprised to see Mel Barnes there. I remember Mel and he was a really nice guy. My heart goes out to you for your loss and I really appreciate your post in the SHS page. Such a nice tribute.

Quite taken back and sad today on seeing this!  I was one of those fellow long haired guys running around the halls of SHS too and Mel was one of my buddies there.  When this website was put up and I saw Mel's name and high school picture it brought back lots of memories of those days.  It also brought some promise of getting to catch up at our upcoming reunion with some of my long lost friends.  Unfortunately I won't be able to do so with Mel.  After reading Terri's tribute, I understand that he made a personal choice of what was probably a very difficult decision to end his suffering and I respect him for that.  He's suffering no more.  Rest in peace Mel Barnes

In closing, this should serve as a reminder to us all that life is precious and a gift, live everyday as if it were your last and appreciate every healthy minute of it.

I am saddened to hear that you are no longer physically with us. You will be sorely missed. I was recently in the old hood and went down Tree Frog Lane where you lived. So many great memories! Was saddened to see how the street had changed! guess that is a sign of the times...God Bless you and your family!

Hi Mel, I've been thinking about you. I'm sure you can hear me. Just wanted you to know that Dad was thinking about you at his birthday party he became 85, which was wonderful since he had a bad heart attack so it was touch and go.
