Stephen F Austin State University graduate – 1979 - BBA
Played on and coached an intramural basketball team (1976-77). Also took up running during my 20’s – I ran in two marathons and several 5 and 10 K’s. I began my career in retail management – K-Mart (2 years) and Western Auto (about 14 years). Moved to Austin in Jan 1985. Work hours got long, so I sought a career change. I went to Austin Community College and U.T. Austin for a couple of years (yes, while I was still working full-time) and did some post-grad mathematics work, etc. to pursue my interest in Actuarial Science. I fell about 16 hours short of a math degree when I had a change of heart. So in 1994, I joined a software company called Activant (then CCI) and have been with them ever since. I manage a few database products and also do software development work. I met the love of my life, Brian (yes, it is spelled and pronounced just like the boy’s name!) 2 years after I moved to Austin in Nov 1987 and we married in May 1988. She and I both love theater (especially Broadway), and doing theater…we have acted and sang in several plays (most while running a church theater project). Shakespeare is our favorite playwright, so some of our madrigals were based on his plays. We both sing and love to sing renaissance period music and both of us have sung in church choirs for several years, though it is just me currently. We both love to go camping, fishing (in Colorado especially), and travel. We’ve been all over England, Scotland, and Wales and have also been to Venice and Florence. We love the history and love all the art, old castles, and cathedrals. We are likely going to Greece next year. That’s been a dream of mine for a long time. For the last 3 years, Brian and I have worked hard on our house add-on project and after it was framed, we have done all the rest of the work ourselves. This has been (and still is) a learning experience! We are fairly close to completing the work inside, but we still need to re-side the older part of the house and then we have dreams of completely re-landscaping our yard (about a third of acre). Brian and I don’t have kids, but we do seem to make up for that in other ways. We both do a lot of volunteer work through our church. My passion is community mission outreach, especially with refugees and homeless persons. I loved basketball in my youth, but it has been 10 years since I have picked one up. My exercise these days is walking or going to the gym. I want to get back to playing tennis, which I have also played a lot of.

School Story:

First...sorry, I seem to have no class picture of me! I actually remember that I could not have it done for some reason, but I forgot what that reason was! I have some great memories as well as some forgettable memories during my time at Sharpstown. For one thing, I was a shy and quiet kid and likely a bit naive (if not just plain dense)! So, most of you that happen to read this may not remember me! Those who do, well, I’m sorry! I was a bit of a geek I would imagine…well, my wife will say that I still am! I love math and astronomy…I suppose that is a given! I was shy around girls for the most part back then and most likely did not know if I was flirted with (if I was). Brian will say that I still don’t know when I’m being flirted with!

If I had to pick a memory that was both memorable and forgettable at the same time, it would probably be the year when our 3rd year Spanish class went on a field trip for a few days to Monterrey, Mexico and Horsetail Falls nearby. I had a great time sightseeing, etc., but I also lost most of the spending money I had with me on the second day we were there! Not to mention, my high school sweetie who went on that same trip got sick also! Needless to say, I had to learn about budgeting very early on!
